Morgan Cheli - Player Bio
Morgan Cheli is a guard who represents the University of Connecticut women’s basketball program. A 6’2” sophomore from Los Altos, California, Cheli is part of UConn’s 2025 NCAA National Championship roster and continues to develop within one of the most competitive environments in collegiate athletics. Known for her energy, versatility, and defensive instincts, she brings size and adaptability to the Huskies’ backcourt while embracing a team-first approach.
Cheli joined UConn after an accomplished high school career at Archbishop Mitty, where she established herself as one of the top players in the country. She earned McDonald’s All-American and Naismith First Team All-American honors, was ranked among ESPN’s top recruits, and helped lead her program to multiple championship runs. As a senior, she contributed across the stat sheet as a scorer, playmaker, rebounder, and defender, laying the foundation for her transition to the college game. During her freshman season at UConn, Cheli appeared in 24 games and gained valuable experience off the bench on a veteran roster. She contributed as a rebounder from the guard position, applied defensive pressure on the perimeter, and continued to adjust to the pace and physicality of college basketball. Her development has been shaped by daily competition, film study, and the high standards set within the program.
Beyond the collegiate level, Cheli has represented the United States internationally with USA Basketball. She won a gold medal at the 2022 FIBA U17 World Cup, where she led her team in steals and competed against top global talent. She was also selected to the 2024 USA Women’s Nike Hoop Summit Team, further highlighting her experience on the national stage. Away from competition, Morgan Cheli is pursuing an individualized academic program at UConn while continuing to adapt to life on the East Coast after growing up in California.
